Light Sculptures
Sarah creates light sculptures from Japanese and Thai handmade papers and reed.
Seeds, pods, shells, stones, cocoons, etc. provide the initial ideas of many of the sculptures. Starting with a reed skeleton, paper is applied creating a shell/skin. Its translucency, strength and texture create the sense of delicacy and form that define the work. When lit from within the sculptures come alive. While they can be an art object by themselves, they can also be the primary light source in a room.
Lights can be made for specific spaces and situations…hanging, wall (sconce), floor and table lights are some of the possibilities.. They are all one of kind, though certain themes can be repeated. She has also created site specific pieces for customers.
